Learn how to cook
Grace United Methodist Church welcomes Chef Thomas Johnson and the new participants of Dayton Cooks Please pray for the students and Chef Thomas as they begin this new journey together. Dayton Cooks is a free 10-week program that trains students for work in the food service industry. Dayton Cooks students work in the Grace kitchen with donated and purchased food.
Students are provided instruction from professional chefs and highly qualified classroom instructors. Students are trained in food safety, sanitation, basic knife skills, classic cooking techniques, commercial kitchen operations and equipment use. They are also prepared for ServSafe Certification and receive assistance with job placement and mentoring.
Dayton Cooks! is a partnership between Wesley Community Center and Grace United Methodist Church with the mission to transform the lives of persons committed to a culinary arts career through rigorous training in food safety and preparation, kitchen skills and life skills.
USDA approved meals and snacks prepared by Dayton Cooks! will be served to income eligible children in after school programs. Dayton Cooks! students prepare hundreds of meals every week for child-care children who might otherwise go hungry after school.
Though operating funds are a major need for Dayton Cooks! additional Board members to help guide and make important decisions would make this important job training opportunity even better. If you know of someone who might be interested and willing to give of their time, please let one of the Grace members of the Board know about him or her. It is a rewarding position to have as we seek to do God’s will in our community. Dayton Cooks! continues to be grateful to Grace Church for all your support.
