Grace Church Sunday School for children focuses on God’s love – God’s love of children and God’s love of all the world. Stories of the Old and New Testaments, as well as other materials, are used to illustrate God’s love. Curriculum suited to children of all ages is chosen with the goals of making learning fun and demonstrating how God is at work in the lives of children. Often scripture is learned by heart, games and crafts are used and songs are learned that facilitate children keeping the message with them beyond their church experience, at home and at school.
Transportation to and from Grace Church for breakfast, Sunday School and Children’s Worship is provided for those who live in the vicinity of the church. Parents or guardians are asked to contact the Director of Children’s Ministry by Saturday so that the bus can be arranged for pick up prior to breakfast and drop off after Children’s Worship.
We follow these recommendations from a experts Gretchen Pritchard, Offering the Gospel to Children and John Westerhoff, Bringing Up Children in the Christian Faith on ministry with children:
Tell and retell God’s story as found in the Scriptures until it becomes our common personal story
Participate in worship and share Holy Communion together
Listen to and talk to each other about our experiences and relationship with God
Practice performing faithful acts of ministry together[/vc_column_text][ultimate_spacer height=”30″ height_on_tabs=”30″ height_on_mob=”15″][vc_column_text]
Let the children come to me, do not stop them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly I tell you, anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. +JESUS
Grace Children’s Ministries are shaped by Jesus’ words to his disciples. We affirm children as persons who already have a relationship with God; Jesus loves and blesses them just as they are, wherever they are. Our work as a congregation is to provide space and time, friendships and activities so that each child’s spirit can grow strong in connection with other children, with caring adults, and with God. Our work is also to cultivate our own childlike trust, creativity, and ability to wonder and play so that we can enter the kingdom of God as we live out our lives in Dayton,
Ohio USA. Entering the kingdom as a little child means we encounter the Bible not as a source of rules and formulas, but as a story—a story about us.* Our presence with children helps us, as adults, grow strong spirits, too.
The Children’s Ministries Team at Grace is a group of highly committed and gifted men and women who look forward to welcoming your children to Worship, Sunday School and the meaningful activities we plan for children throughout the year.
