SUNDAY AT GRACE

“Sheep Need Shepherds” was the theme on Sunday.  Sarah Benson, pictured above, enhanced our worship experience with her beautiful singing.  Pastor Steve’s message pointed out that we, like sheep, tend to wander away from the path if left to our own devices.  We need a shepherd—God!  If you would like to see the service, click here for the Grace Church Dayton channel of YouTube.  The audio is off for the first few minutes, but picks up during the prelude.

This Saturday, July 27, at 2:00 p.m., Joe Severyn will be giving a short recital with voice and piano, in collaboration with soprano Gabrielle Flannery.  They will present some popular songs from the early/mid 20th century, some ragtime, and the complete Frauenlieben und -leben song cycle by Schumann!

If you can’t make it Saturday or just want a preview, they also invite you to their informal dress rehearsal on Wednesday July 24, at 5:30 p.m., also at Grace UMC.

Joe says, “We are both very excited to share this music with you, and have had a great time collaborating this summer. Hope to see you there!”

FAIRVIEW FOOD PANTRY

“I was hungry, and you gave me food” (Matthew 25:35)

Fairview UMC in northwest Dayton (828 W. Fairview Ave.) has a “choice pantry” where individuals can choose which foods they will take home to feed their families. Volunteers are needed to help “shoppers” know how many of each food type they may pick. It’s a one-on-one, relational ministry providing this most basic need that Jesus identified: food.

Amelia Boomershine finds it easy and joyful. She found out about it from her former Old Testament professor, Kathy Farmer, who coordinates the volunteers.

The pantry needs volunteers for these August mornings: Fridays, August 2 and 16, and Monday, August 19. If you are available any of these mornings, contact Kathy to get on the schedule: karfarmer43@gmail.com.
